History

Comal is founded in 2001 by a group of technicians with meaningful experiences gained in the plant-industrial sector.

The company’s path began in the mechanical-plant engineering sector, participating in constructing large energy production plants from conventional sources, including that of Montalto di Castro, originally a nuclear plant.

Since the beginning of 2016, the photovoltaic systems have been built overall by Comal SpA with the contractual formula defined EPC-M (Engineering, Purchase, Construction, and Management). In addition to construction, COMAL takes care of the O&M (Operational and Maintenance) phase, taking care of maintenance, functionality, production performance, and intrusion surveillance. The plants’ functionalities and production performance data are remotely monitored 24/24 hours in a Control Room set up at the headquarters.

Since April 2018, COMAL has also supplied trackers (support structures for photovoltaic modules), totally designed, manufactured, and assembled in its Montalto di Castro plant. The single-axis solar tracking trackers are equipped with electrical components, hardware, and software developed in Comal for command and control.

Comal SpA is one of the first Italian companies to build large-scale photovoltaic systems, entering a sector dominated by foreign entities a few years ago. Thanks to the experience gained, COMAL has attracted large European structural investors (Octopus Investments, KGAL Investments, etc.).

Following the severe crisis in the plant engineering sector, Comal has profoundly restructured its corporate structure and diversified its production interest, entering the industry of building large photovoltaic energy production plants with enthusiasm and determination. In recent years, Comal has achieved excellent results regarding turnover volumes, the plants’ technical performance, and customer satisfaction.
Although the central part of the turnover comes from large photovoltaic plants’ construction, Comal is still present in the conventional plant engineering sector for mechanical-maintenance activities (for Enel, General Electric, etc.).

Comal first acquired the technical and manufacturing experience in photovoltaics in South Africa (2013-2015) and subsequently constructed large plants in Italy for approximately 600 MW of installed power up today.

To name some of the institutional clients: ACEA, ABB, Enel Green Power, Octopus Investments, KGAL Investments.
